I feel like I’m missing pieces of sleep
The Manics Freebird. IE the song that’s mandatory to be shouted for live. Until the band actually played it.
I would have wished that James’ nerves had been more spared during the process, but I’m glad the band finally gave in to actually play it. Gold Against the Soul is one of the least liked MSP albums and whilst I enjoy it quite much, even those who do dislike it probably realise that Sleepflower is one of its grand choice cuts. Yes, if you’re allergic to stadium cock rock then Sleepflower might be a bit too much. Epic middle-eight, twin guitaring in the solo, long-arse solo in general, bells… It’s a big song. It’s overblown. I’m not really a fan of cock rock myself but Sleepflower is damn enjoyable. It’s managed to hit the sacred switch of sounding tongue-in-cheek in its grandiosity (doubt it was planned that way though) while still taking itself seriously enough to be a kickass rocker. Not to mention its description of insomnia is pretty vivid and great.
