But hey, cocaine keeps cholesterol at bay
In a discography primarily filled by very serious moments, it’s the bitter rays of sunshine like Nostalgic Pushead that work as nice occasional refreshments and show off the band’s sense of humour.
I love Nostalgic Pushead and it’s simply because of the humour. It’s a stadium rock anthem that takes the piss of the typical corporate larger-than-life rock and roll lifestyle. James is on fire on this one as he alternates between his yelpy verse vocals and the weirdo pseudo-spoken word post-chorus bits. Musically it’s just pure aceness – fun riffage, drums with some clangy percussion whacking among the beat, the synthy thingy squeaking in the final verse (love that sound). Then the added bonus of the band sounding like they’re having a right laugh on the studio and having sincere fun which definitely gives the song its own feel-good vibe.
