Betray my other self
The worst part in The Holy Bible era is its miserable b-sides history. Each single got a single b-side and two of those were pretty much James solo tracks because the rest of the band was lazy/fucked over their heads.
Out of all the Manics acoustic tracks I find the The Holy Bible ones the most uninspired. Sure, Love Torn Us Under has a peculiarly sinister atmosphere to it which is nice and all and fits with the general theme of its parent album but it’s not a particularly interesting track is it? The lyrics are poor – a bunch of “pity me” artsy wartsy angsty wangstiness – and the music doesn’t really have anything to grab onto. The guitar solo at the end sounds completely out of place and downright wonky.
Not a fan.
